Minutes of April 6, 2011 Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 8:17 AM.

Present: Dobek, Donahoe, Herrick, Parmelee, Roth-Johnson, Schofield
Absent: (excused) Cocchiola, Giblin
Guests: Christine Mickle from Recreation Department, Bob Smith from Search Committee
Selectman: Aimee Eckman

The minutes of March 2, 2011 were approved as presented.

Old Business
•       Eastham bike month event. Eastham Recreation Department has offered to help. The event will be covered by town insurance.  Cost of posters can be reimbursed by Bikeways funds that are held by the Selectmen.  Bob Smith suggested Vistaprint, an on-line printer with reasonable costs.  Members doing posters were reminded that they need tax-exempt form from the town for purchases.  Christine Mickle said they will help with registration and will have release forms before the ride.  Carol Dobek talked with Orleans Police who suggested regrouping stops. A letter to parents in schools was discussed. We will use Recreation Department registration form with minor changes. CCNS has been informed. No special Park forms are needed; park contact is Garrett Moynihan at Nauset Ranger Station. Eastham Police will help. Only advertising is left to do. There will be no rain date. Helmets are required and no training wheels or tricycles allowed. We will give info to Christine Mickle and the Rec. Dept. will publicize; they will also send an e-mail blast.

•       Bike maintenance demonstration. Date previously chosen is the MS ride, so date is changed to May 21 at 1 PM with bike mechanic from Idle Times Bike Shop.  Lois will do town paper work for permission to use the Earle Mountain Room.  Kathy Herrick offered to do posters for both May events.

•       Boy Scout Rail Trail Clean-up.  Paul Schofield has arranged this for April 30; time to be determined.

•       Multi-town bike committee meeting. Carol Dobek attended a March 4 meeting.  Towns represented were Chatham, Brewster, Harwich, Orleans and Eastham. It was noted that Chatham has very good markings on the bike trial. Group will meet again in June; Bob Donahoe will go as Carol will be away.

•       Retaining wall. Lois sent an email regarding the damage to Jon Petersen and Dan O’Brien of DCR, and Neil Andres of Eastham DPW. Neil will follow up with the State.

New Business
•       Sign at Salt Pond Road. The new sign directing riders to the CCNS bike trail has been put up.

•       Sign Map at Brackett. This is on the wrong side of the road and leaning. Bob will contact DPW.

•       Committee Membership.  Search Committee documents were sent to members. Lois will attend chairs meeting.  Lois’s term ends in June and she announced that she will not reapply.  Interviews for new members will be held by Selectman Aimee Eckman, Search Committee Chair Bob Smith and Bikeways Chair Lois Roth-Johnson.

•       Gov. Prence Intersection. Selectman Eckman said that although the Cape Cod Commission has approved a new light, the intersection does not meet Mass Highways conditions for same. CCNS is in favor of the light and is looking at procuring a new kind of light called a hybrid beacon via grants available to them.

The Committee will meet next on 4 May 2011.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:08 am

Respectfully submitted,
Judy Parmelee, Clerk
